What is Radon?

Radon is a radioactive soil gas that can build up in your home and increase your risk of developing lung cancer. For more information, please see the Illinois Emergency Management Agency website http://radon.illinois.gov/iema/radon/pdf/abcofradon.pdf or you can also check the EPA website at http://www.epa.gov/radon/pubs/citguide.html.

About The Task Force

The Southern Illinois Radon Awareness Task Force was established in 2008.  It is a partnership among local residents, organizations, private and public health care providers.

Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. This task force was established to help residents in Southern Illinois learn about radon and the importance of testing and mitigation by providing educational materials and creating public awareness.

Mission

The mission of the Southern Illinois Radon Awareness Program is to reduce radon health risk throughout the area by providing education, encouraging testing, and supporting mitigation.

Most importantly, everyone should test his house for radon.
