Radon Measurement/Testing Information

The only way to determine if your home has elevated radon gas levels is to conduct a radon test.  There are several ways to locate a radon measurement company.

In Illinois, measurement companies must be licensed.  A list of Illinois licensed measurement companies are available by county at http://radon.illinois.gov/.  Test kits can be ordered on-line at http://www.radon.com/sub/il/.  Test kits are also available fron the American Lung Association of Illinois for a $10.00 donation.  The ALA website is http://www.lungil.org/.

If you are not located in Illinois, a listing of certified measurement companies can be located at http://www.neha-nrpp.org/ or http://www.nrsb.org/.

If you are looking for information on radon measurement, check the following web-sites:

You cannot make any assumptions about whether or not your house has elevated radon levels.  The only way to know the radon level in your home is to conduct a test.  Do not rely on the neighbor's test as an indication of the radon level in your house.

If your test shows that you have elevated radon levels, see the page on mitigation for links about lowering radon levels and to find a list of licensed/certified companies.
